saying farewell to Marc Simont

marc simontOne of my  favorite illustrators, Marc Simont, has died at the age of 97. Every time I see his name on a book, I smile, knowing I will be in for a treat  — beautiful, intelligent, excellent work that never shouts but captures the essence of his material with just the right touch. He respected his audience — almost entirely children — and his art form.

Here’s a link to the New York Times tribute to a tree is nice illustrated by marc simonthim and links to his work that has appeared on my blog:

A Tree is Nice

My Brother, Ant

In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson

The Philharmonic Gets Dressed

The First Christmas

Thank you, Mr. Simont, for all your many gifts to us.
