Boys Life Magazine is running a contest in 3 age groups — 8 and younger, 9 and 10, 11 and up — requiring an essay (book review).  It’s open until December and has great prizes.  If your boy would like to win stuff ranging from sleeping bags to cool build-it-yourself crystal radio kits, here is your chance!  Click the link:

The Minnesota Twins sponsor a reading contest for kids in a number of Midwest states, ages 14 and down.  Check out the details here, or, if you aren’t lucky enough to live up here in the True Northland 🙂 you might try checking with your local Major League Baseball team as I believe a number of them run similar contests:

Again, for you local Minneapolis folk, the Hennepin County Library summer reading program is a great one to be a part of.  Every summer my kids looked forward to receiving a bag of Cool Summer Reading Stuff, and entering their book reviews weekly for a chance to win.  And they did win!  Numerous times!  Kids can write a short on-line review, or they can even draw a picture on the form from the library to show what they loved about the book.  Surely your local library has a similar contest running this summer:

Here are a few more which are not-just-for-summer:

Sylvan Learning Center sponsors an on-going reading contest for kids in grades K-8.  Read a book, take an on-line quiz about it, and earn points towards fun prizes.

Right now, if you’re willing to receive an on-line newsletter from Random House Books, you can receive 3 great titles:  Are You My Mother, Frederick and Oh The Places You’ll Go!  Check it out here:

Last, but certainly not least, a chance to win the entire Chronicles of Narnia collection as they gear up for the release of the next film:
